Title: 1970 280sl
Post by: Ron.K on April 29, 2017, 12:55:47
I just started my car after a long cold Canadian winter and noticed that my temperature gauge does not move, which has never happened before. All the other gauges work. The engine is up to temperature and the car runs fine. Where do I start to diagnose this?

Ron.

The temperature gauge on my 230 SL failed last year.  They use a liquid filled and plastic covered cable to move the needle and they are prone to cracks and leakage over time.  I ordered a new one from the MBZ Classic Center and had it installed and it works fine.  New temp gauges are only available in degrees centigrade.

Hi Ron,
you can get them rebuilt. I think I might have one ready to go.
