This subject cropped up on another thread so I thought I'd post the details here for future searchers to find.
Green brake pipes, green brake lines, copper brake lines, nickel brake lines.

Whilst not necessarily aesthetically correct, I like to use the green coated brake pipes from 1980s cars.
I buy the longest length, part number A1234208828/64, and cut to length, bend with a hand-held pipe bender and flare with a flaring tool.
Only the purists will object to the incorrect finish!

Is using copper very incorrect?
In my country if you say: I want the original steel lines - they will tell you  you are crazy.
Pretty much everybody is buying copper lines by meters and fit the unions...
Needless to say - I have copper lines in my car.

If yo uleave a newer car with the mechanic and he spots the need to replace a brake line - he will proudly tell you when you collect the car: I replaced that line with a copper one.

Truth is that given the winters here it is very unlikely that you can unscrew a steel line union in a 4-5 years old car.

I recently saw some factory mercedes replacement lines for a W113 and they were the green epoxy coated lines.  That makes them correct for our cars as far as judging goes.

Only legal equipment here is flared steel lines. You can use copper/nickel coated lines but the base material has to be steel.

Ok, so copper, even though it would not be ok for judging, may not be that bad. I am saying copper, but these are not regular copper pipes, they have special marks and are tested for high pressure installations including brake lines in motoring (I think 200-300 bar). So they are probably ok...

I have used this nickel/copper brake pipe since mid 80`s. Never have had any problems whit it.
Original brake pipes of my 280SL look pretty nice so I might use them but not sure yet.

These pipes now come in black not green........
