Looking for a radio delete plate with emblem, don't mind having to rechrome but emblem must be undamaged.
-
Scott, there is one claimed to be original on eBay from a seller in the US called Ama1024 ...he has a 100% score. Seems a bit pricey at 300 USD + 80 shipping but ...
I just bought one from Dr Benz ( SL Barn) on this forum. Not sure if he has more.
Regards
Pedro

Pedro, what is the name of the SL barn site? Have troubles finding it through google...
-
Try a PM to “Benz Dr. “ or email at benzbarn@kent.net. I don’t know if he has a site.
-
Pawel,
See Neelyrc reply. Correct contact and email. I don't know if there is a site.

Pedro

Ok, thank you!
PM - certainly, e-mail I found, but I do not want to bother Dan. As site/shop was mentioned, I thought I would browse through it.

Dear Scott,
How about an original period Becker radio instead? ;) - Working, of course! 8)
I found that those (not too common) correct period Becker (or dealer-installed Blaupunk-) radios are surprisingly easier to come by than the rare radio del plates...
This is even more surprising since original factory Becker radios were crazily expensive in the non-US world back then and thus not the majority of (at least) 230ies were delivered with a radio but with radio del plates instead. ???
Where have these "trophies" all gone nowadays?? :o :o
Well, if you insist on a radio deletion plate ... >:( :)
have you tried Authentic Classics then? He has got them (AFAIR).
Don' know the current price though ...
Best,
Achim

Thats my other option I guess. I quite like the radio delete plate and I never listen to the radio in a car anyway. In the past I have spent hours and hours and a considerable sum of money trying to get a decent stereo in old cars and it either looks wrong or doesn't sound that great, and now I just cant be bothered. I have a bluetooth speaker that I use with my iPhone and that works well although the battery life is very poor, I was planning on getting a different one for the Mercedes.
I saw the one on eBay but thought it looked a bit pricey and all it needs is for the emblem to be missing a pin or something and it was all a waste. Id rather get one from the group if I can, I hope to be getting the car to the painter in the next 6 months or so, so if I cant find one by then I'l look for a radio for it.
I looked on Authentic Classics and the emblem is listed as out of stock. I ought to email them I guess.
I assume even a radio delete car would have had a speaker and antenna fitted at the factory?

Authentic Classics seems to have the whole kit for a 230SL in stock for US$195.

My 1965 230SL came originally with radio delete and did not come with speaker or antenna.

Just to follow up on this. I went with the overriding majority and have ordered a restored Europa TR from Konigs Klassik. I was unsure which vendor to get it from but Konigs give a 2 year warranty and seeing as its probably going to be over a year before this gets installed I thought that would be useful just in case. I have also ordered their speaker and a new antenna.
Looking forward to seeing it and thanks to everyone for their input.

I hope you will be happy with the vendor choice. I had nothing but positive experience with them. Last item I bought there was a small one - the AUX jack port for Europa - small thing, but lots of joy when you just plug it and it works ;).
