Post by: johnnymack on April 16, 2018, 17:59:43
I'm looking for a decent gas cap (can't spend the money for a locking chrome one) chrome not looking as the car never leaves me sight out in public , at home its locked up in garage. I have a painted plain one now. any thoughts?

Stick with the painted cap. Far less likely to get pinched.

You can find the beautiful chrome cap less now than it was  four or five years ago $129 at Authentic Classics.
It locks so no need to worry about theft.

Try here ---> https://www.authenticclassics.com/Chrome-Locking-Gas-Cap-late-type-REP-p/auth-007655.htm

Price reduction here, as said it locks so you be fine.

Now if you abselutely need the MB Star expect to pay a lot more ,,,

Johnny,

Your 1970 has a universal two sided key for the ignition, doors, trunk, and gas cap.  The slot of the expensive chrome one is centered in the middle of the hub, not offset to one side.

Unfortunately, the Authentic Classic one has a separate key and will be different than your main key, and also incorrect for the Car.  So, if you want to win at the Amelia Island concours event, you are going to have to spend the $385 to have the Mercedes Benz Classic Center get you one from Germany.  If you give Tom Hanson your VIN number, he will match the lock to the rest of your car and give you two new keys as well.  I did exactly that, and am happy to only have one key on my Benz Fob.

Good Luck.
