Have submitted plans to Council to build a new garage for storing my old cars. To be built in brick.
Now the wait for the slow wheels of town planning to approve.

Looks like you have a lot of overhead real estate facing north on the back side of the roof. Considering voltaic panels?

Garry, best of luck with the project and a speedy approval from the powers to by at city hall. Make it a bit of your Mancave to enjoy some quiet time in when needed.

PS. In 2016 when I was at the Deutsche Classic I visited Bob S. Bob has a Garage/Mancave to die for (i’m sure many of our Members here have seen the pictures and stories when MB Star magazine published the story in one of There magazines.

Best of luck, hoping the "council" doesn't give you trouble. Sometimes that's all they want to do.
Are those real cupolas, (roof penetrations that admit light into the interior) or false cupolas to simply blend in with neighboring architecture? If the former, that's a nice touch. On the south elevation, it shows a clock--would that be done? Imagine, all the neighbors staring at your garage to tell time!

I am putting a twin post lift in the rear of the double ended part of the garage. I had wished I had done it for years in my old house but with building a new house and garage,and as I am getting older, it is getting just too hard to lie down and slide under the cars. ;D ;D :o

A lift is the #1 tool in a garage. Can't beat it. Lifts usually only need 3-4" of concrete to bite into. With a fresh build, it doesn't hurt to pour more where the pads will be. If you have the height for overhead stringing of hydraulics and cables, go for it. Great not to have a floor plate. And, by all means, look into a "jackshaft" garage door opener so you can avoid the chain drive down the middle. If you can get your door to ride high enough, that's great too, so it clears the car when open and the car is at full height. My openers are Liftmaster.

What I have planned is a end on end double car spot of 14m x 5m (45'x16') in one part of the garage, a working area of 5mx5m between the third single car space 7mx5m (23'x16') in a second area. The hoist is going in the rear of the end on end space so does not interfere the door opening and also allows me to leave the car on the hoist if needs be and take the forward car out when ever I need.
I hope the width is enough so no hitting car doors on other things.
Plenty of room and the whole floor is 100mm reinforced concrete (4”). I might do another 25mm on the pad area. Unfortunately I am not going high enough internally for an overhead link between the posts.

Exactly! I also noticed that I move slower and slower for some reason and I need to have better and better reason to get under the car.... :)

Other topic that bothers me every time I do something with the car and is a result of my garage being too small and adopted to needs rather than built for needs, is the air compressor noise. I know it is very basic, but if I planned it, I would have it in a place that is "soundproof". I am also missing a proper workshop table with space to do things on it, space for grinder, vice etc. A free standing bench that I can access from all sides is a beyond reach topic as well.
I asked about the car lift as in my country you have to have a special certificate for a lift foundation. It is best to have it in the design and make sure it is looked at relevant authorities at all proper stages to get this certificate.
The presence of my wife's car in the garage is also quite irritating - it is new, it is not a Mercedes and it is very rarely that anything needs to be done on it and it occupies space. But my wife cooks food for me, so the car is there... Very difficult topic... ;) ;)

My Pagoda has shared its garage with many different vehicles over the years but the Pagoda has always stayed, it is my favourite and my shed has not been with out one for many years.

Garry, an asymmetric lift will also allow you to open doors wider while the car is on the hoist.
Sometimes, the roof trusses can be modified, or designed in the area of the lift to allow for the higher overhead system's taller posts and crosspiece. A pocket, so to speak.

The lift is great to have in your garage. I have a four post to store a car on and some work. My ceiling is only 109" so its a tight fit but works well. I also like the looks of a cupola.

My planning permit has been approved but they made me remove the cupola from the roof.
I an in the process of doing the engineering designs for the roof structure to allow a completely clear ceiling line that follows the roof and allow the hoist to be fitted.
Really like that idea of fitting a weather vane on top of the cupola. will do that after it is all built and the dust settled with the authorities and i will just add it as it cannot be seen from the street.
The first sod should be turned in the first week in January.

Have you thought about a SIP (Sructurally Insulated Panel) roof? You'd need a couple of joists across the roof space and some purlins along the roof but effectively, the slope of the roof "self supports", removing the need for joists sitting atop the walls and running across the space. You could run a support joist across the longer space in line with the back wall of the store/smaller garage and have two full height spaces... or one where your post lift sits

Toilet, wash basin for dirty hands?
A pit for getting under the cars for oil change or other?
Floor drains?
A sitting room to light one up and sip a snifter/ gulp a grog in a recliner?
Library for all the info and a computer terminal for viewing pictures and web?
Lift? Scratch this, already talked about.
Many things to add, but you are the ultimate decision maker.

I did consider going down but below the main garage area is a major trunk sewer that i got approval to pier over after much discussion with the local water and sewerage board and much engineering design work to get them to agree.
James, I am actually working on a very similar design that achieves just that.
Walter, beside the carriage house i am installing a Caboose that i pulled out of the old house that is fully fitted out with hot and cold water, shower and toilet and lounge area to be able to sit and relax with a beer at the end of a hard day in the shed.....

The Caboose is in and ready for a repaint and the garage is built but at the moment i am no able to get cars to it as the main house is still under construction and it’s full building material and also very muddy. The driveways have not been done. Maybe at the end of May is the handover date.

Reading the thread, it looks exciting but what really struck me was...
Here you are practically on the other side of the World and you have the same issues/struggles that many of us have with regulatory bodies - Trustees, Planning Departments, Councils, Zoning Boards etc.
Actually made me feel good that I'm not alone

The really sad part of this build is that at the end of the garage build, i had to get an arborists report on the large tree that the garage was built specifically around.
It failed the report and now has to be removed but before i can do that i have to apply to the local council to get a permit to take down and replace with another tree. To do that i have to formally get a letter from each neighbour that they do not object. PC gone mad., oh and pay $200 for the permit to lop the tree.

Garry Congratulations on getting approval. Once they have come ,inspected and signed off that’s when you can make those final modifications. This will be a life changer for you and will allow you to get the Pagoda another companion. Can’t wait for this Crisis to be over so we can come over and celebrate it with you.

How do you get your car to that place? I don't see any traces on the image. Or it's just in the building process and you will make a path afterwards? If it's so, then I can understand it, because I only see the garage and now space for driving the car in it. I am a lover of carports more, because I've got a few cars, and there is no space for all of them in the garage. It's cool that the guys from carports (https://carportaustralia.com.au/) managed to build one for me in just a few days, I didn't expect to be so fast and qualitative.
