I see it may not be available from MB, I asked the question, we will see if there are replacements.

Is this also listed as part no. 111 463 00 09 also listed as 113 463 00 09 (in the last 230 SL parts book)?? With attachment bracket part 111 463 11 40.
If so, the parts book calls it a protective plate.

Yes, Jonny, that is how EPC calls them as well, thank you. It protects the arm from heat. Any idea where to find them (sield and bracket)?

Pawel, I currently have mine off my car while working on my exhaust. I could trace it with construction paper, scan it and e-mail it to you. I could include some photos of where the bends and hardware attachment are. Let me know

To my surprise I have received information from the dealer today that both the plate and the bracket are available at MB. Obviously the plate is ridiculously expensive (ca $100). I think I will have them on Friday, I will see what I get.

Looks a bit different then the OE one from my car. The part number suggests its for a 107 chassis. But if it fits then I don't think it really matters. The ultimate goal is to keep the grease in the arm from being heated up and boiled away.

Too much for that part - way too much considering it's a 107 part. Protecting grease would only be relevant for early cars. Once you get to a 280SL all that stuff is dry bushings.

I did not ask before checking it, but this has crossed my mind - when I looked at the idler arm in my car I was wondering how do I grease it as I do not see any zerk there. So now I know. However: this shield was installed in 280SLs for a reason even though there is no grease there. I am pretty sure that Daimler would have cut a couple of bucks of cost if it was not necessary. Also: on my W463 a few years ago I installed a very similar shield (when I figured it was missing) protecting bushing in one of the suspension arms, which is not greased either. I think it may not be just drying grease that is protected by it, but also perhaps the rubber itself. It is getting bad fast in high temperatures.

I am just about to order these parts for my W111 - which is greased so I don't mind spending the money! New steering arms are NLA so I don't want to risk any wear on mine which is a newly replaced good second hand one.
I have been quoted 75 euros + 19% tax for the heat shield (part number 1114630090) and 14 euros + 19% tax for the clamp (part number 1114631140)
Whether this price is competitive I don't know but I went to a company called Werner Karasch in Germany. They are efficient and have been able to quote me parts that I have previously had no luck finding at the more well known specialists.
p.s. What I have discovered since owning my W111 is that "significant" amounts of money are often required for parts you don't know are missing when you buy the car !! This is a good case in point.

I had about half of it... Obviously I looked in the half I had, but they did not have this small item.
By the way for the 107 bracket you need a tapping screw, not just machine screw.

I have to add here, having installed it today, that this ridiculously expensive part may need to be cut a bit to be installed. At least that is what I had to do.

Ok, you wrote about those. This is exactly what I ordered, it has just turned to 107.... on the way :). Maybe in your case it will not.
If it does, you need to cut out the triangle part. Let's see.
Always when I order a part from MB that is visible, I ask the dealer to notify me if the number is changed for the new one by the system. If it does, I do not order. As it means the part will look different. You would not know about it untill it arrives.
But again, hope you get the 114 part.
