Yes... You can see the switch mount on one of the interior pics.
There is another sw on the same panel.. must be an alarm or electric antenna sw.????  The one with the green lens is for fog.

I have one of those Original Hella Fogs w/switch , if anyone is interested.
Tnx

A bit off the main them of this topic, but in looking at the pictures, the heater levers are the full color acrylic levers. On a 280???

In addition to the heater levers, the knob for the blower is also the 230SL style. Never seen anyone do that before in a restoration.

For what it's worth, I had a p.p.i. done on this car about a year ago but a reliable shop in Denver; it wasn't clear what the under-dash switch was, although the fog light was original to the car.  I'm tempted to make inquiries to the eBay seller to see what's been done since I had it looked over, but it'd just be idle curiosity at this point for me.  If anyone has any serious interest in the car, I'm happy to share what I learned back then.  I guess it's obvious that I bought a different car.  But this one was my favorite color combo.

The car is a Euro version . They kept the acrylic on the early .044..
The rubber levers was a US DOT crash mandate.
Same for the blower knob.

My 250 Euro has that and it is listed as an option.

Hello,
This is a real ecclectic mix.

The chrome toggle switch under the dash is from a earlier Mercedes (190-SL, or ponton). It was used to control the one-side or other parking light.

Also I have one of these factory rear fogs. It was controled by a red switch similar to the one on the dash in the photo. Maybe I can post some pictures if anyone is interested in seeing one close-up.

The heater fan knob should match the rest on the dash.

It is hard to say which switch is wired to what, it looks like some things are not as original.

Yes please Joe,
I'm interested in any info for light details you may have.
Also, do you know how they were wired? - to work with front fog or completely independant?
The problem we have here in the Uk is that once an independant rear fog light is switched on on a foggy november morning, it does not get switched off until spring

In regard to the rear fog light..
I doubt it is a factory original to the car as they were not a mandatory requirement on new cars until the late 1970's. However dealers in the uk would often fit them if asked

They are a good idea as I am sure Naj can testify.....

THe best source of these items (in the UK) are either Lucas or Bosch agents, in both cases you can usually rummage through the lighting books and find the style you need

I would be interested in your pics as I have an original rear fog and switch that I would like to compare.
It has always been our thoughts that the red lens switch was for the optional Warning Flasher and the green lens was for the rear fog [ as one would see in the later .044, behind the ash tray. There was also rear defrost sw, but I have not seen them. Possibly this was a red lens??

Arthur,

Sorry, I don't know that code. Gernold seems to know some of the more obscure option codes, so I'd check with him.

Yes , I will do that.
I may even have it on an old data card, but doubt it.
GN will know, if anyone does.

Tnx for the reply

What is the German word(s) for "four way flasher" I have the list of options available for the 60's but they are in German, in the Engelen book. I found the fog light code (46/2) as Doug said, but had no luck trying to find the flasher (although it was fun using the on line German-English dictionary to find some of the other options).

In looking through the data code list, previously noted on the site, in regards to the data card. There are the following codes.

315 - hazard warning light
316 - Electronic hazard warning light senderunit and hazard warning.
463 - hazard warning light

Surely a rear fog light would not be an option available in the USA (not sure about Canada or Mexico). In all my travels to the US I have never seen a US spec car, even modern ones, with working rear fog lights......

ok, so if a feature like the rear fog lights become a standard inclusion, do they then get a mention on the data card?

Woah! Can of worms[:p]
Ok let me rephrase that
Hauser/Chris/Bruce Your modern MB have them...., do you use them.. Friend in US has an modern Audi A6 estate car (station wagon) and where the rear fog lights would be on a European model they are turned into extra brake lights on the US model. Seen this on other US spec'ed MB/BMW/Audi/VW etc
Hence my earlier post

I definitely use the rear fog light (05 E 4matic wagon) when the occasion merits, rain at dusk, etc. Volvo has them. My Mini, has the wiring but the light is not hooked up.

Malc, I use my rear fogs whenever the weather calls for it.  Fog, heavy rain are must times for the rear fog light feature.  The rain here is so heavy at times that the wipers can't keep up with it.  Afterall it's always best to see and be seen!

Yes, I do use the rear fog light on my ML320 occasionally, even in southern CA, when it rains hard or is foggy.  I've also used it to help a friend in a following car more easily pick my car out of the traffic.

I use the front fog lights more often, in fog or rain, or to provide better side lighting when driving in neighborhood streets.  I wish Mercedes had put in side lights that come on when one uses the direction signal, as the Ford Taurus had.

Hello Guys,
Here are some photos of what I believe as one original Bosch rear fog light. It came off a 1966 Mercedes (euro version).

Thumbing through the most recent issue of Mercedes Classic, there are several photos accompanying the cover article about the 170S, 220SE, 280SE 3.5 LWB, and (W107)300SL.  Look at the rear shot of the 280SE 3.5 and you will see a rear fog lamp fitted.  Is that an official M-B unit?
