Title: 230sl valve cover leak
Post by: dnadanny1 on November 14, 2018, 04:07:57
HI there, i have a 1966 230sl, and i spotted a leakage problem at the valve cover seal.
No matter how  i tighten it according to the spec, it still leaks.
Any thoughts about this.

Thanks a lot.

William

Yup. Warped head and maybe the cover too. We used a piece of small O-ring and placed in the groove of the valve cove seal at each end so that each end would press down more than the middle. This may require a bit of experimenting to sort out. I would also check the top of the head to see how straight it is before you spend a lot of time trying to fix it.

When you bend and squeeze the valve cover seal and it shows cracked rubber - time to change the seal. Not a very expensive item. Do not overtighten the valve cover, you will bend the cover supports and this may cause noises.
