My first Pagoda turns 50 today!
Below is the photo that I first saw of the car on ebay (UK) a decade ago - which led to me making the crazy action of buying a car unseen...... literally on the other side of the world. He didn't even have pics of the engine bay or underneath. (crazy I know!). I did try arrange a pre-purchase inspection but ran out of time. After buying it is when I found out about the UK salting their roads - I knew they did in the USA but wasn't aware the UK did too. Waiting for the delivery of car was the longest 3 months I have even encountered.
Thankfully it worked out well for me in the long run. This of course kick-started a Pagoda obsession of sorts.
Unfortunately the car cannot celebrate its 50th as pleasantly as I did mine ( Boys trip across Asia :-X) but I will be sure to give it some TLC soon.

Beautiful car, now you just need a few more W113s, one for every year!
;)
Which one is that BTW? I'm a noob, so I can't spot a year from just that angle.

Hey Teahead. I think some basic math will let you know that if it turned 50 on June 18th that it was born in 1969 - being in the middle of the year it would be a 1969 model as well and it looks to be a Euro model so most definitely a 1969 Model and it would be a 280sl as the 250sl was only manufactured from Nov 66 to Dec 67. I couldn't tell you if it has a 3.92 or 3.69 rear end but if it is a manual and is a Euro instead of a US version made to look like a Euro it may have the coveted 3.69 rear end.
You will get there soon enough. Good for party tricks however - E Type Jags are much easier to tell the year from a picture as a 63 230sl with later wheel covers looks almost identical to a 1971 280sl from exterior pictures. Interiors are a give away but many 230sl's have the later pressed alloy wheels that take the later wheel covers.
Welcome to the group.

.../... I couldn't tell you if it has a 3.92 or 3.69 rear end.../...
The change of rear axle ratio was made in November 1969 (from 1:3.92 to 1:3.69)
