After almost 18 years of ownership I've sold my car. The car is on its way to London. Any details about the new owner will have to come from him. I want to thank John Mancini for putting me in touch with Pierre Hedary who had a client who was interested and bought the car. My car is a bit unusual in that it was ordered new without a hardtop, just with the soft top. That's something I didn't realize until John pointed it out to me from the fender tag and data card. The previous owner purchased a new hard top some time later. I never formally advertised the car for sale but whenever I saw that someone was looking for a Pagoda I would send them photos and details about my car. I did have a couple of forum members come to look at the car. The new owner purchased the car over 3 months ago but because of my traveling, snow storms and lack of transport available the car didn't leave here until this week. I've enjoyed the car and loved taking it to the car shows and parades here on Cape Cod. Some of you may know my car because it was shown in the Pagoda Style book published by Michael Salemi.

Yes, Otto--been a heck of a winter there up in New England.
Are you replacing it with anything else fun? Or, just downsizing?
-
My London, Canadiadian London or AN Other London
Congrats, I guess, on the sale. Bitter-sweet I guess
-
I would love to get another car but I am downsizing.
-
No, not to Canada, its going across the Atlantic.

Congratulations on the sale, beautiful colour!

Congratulations on the sale, beautiful colour!
Thank you! Like that a lot too.
At one time, before I came to the U.S., I pondered selling my 280SL instead of bringing it here.
I called a guy who had a "wanted" ad in a car magazine. When I told him what the color was, he snubbed it and called it a "Juke-Box" paint :o :D

Yes, I liked the color a lot too. I had a number of 'lookers' who didn't like the color. Other than your car Mike, I have only seen a couple in Sandy Beige.

Here's Otto Danner's story and his car, from Pagoda Style for those that have not seen the book...
-
Thank you Michael, one copy of your book has gone with the car to the new owner and I still have the other copy.

Congrats Otto. I'm glad that Pierre could help you out. Last week I sold my 69 Horizon Blue 280SL. Like you, I owned that car for over 18 years, and It's in Michael's book too. Was, and is, a great, great Pagoda. I still have my 65 230SL.

Thank you John. I remember a number of years ago visiting your garage and seeing your two Pagodas. Both the red and the blue cars were beautiful and original.

Love that color - sandy beige metallic .... "gold" metallic... :D ;D
Otto,
Very sad to see that your car goes...
always hurts me a bit when fellow owners sell their SLs,
although it isn't that bad anymore as it was perhaps 20 years ago. 8)
But this is how it is with the years, we are all getting older,
and most likely none of us will make use of his SL at the age of 102 anymore ....
Personally, I have owned my SL for 27 years and I am absolutely not ready to let it go...., not within the next 20 - 25 years.
Perhaps in 30 ..., when I am in my 90ies (if I ever get that old) and my nieces are insisting on their heir... ;) :D
Enjoy your next car! ;)
Best,
Achim
