Title: Rear fog light
Post by: zoegrlh on May 14, 2022, 20:12:28
Has anyone wired for rear fog light?  Euro spec came with rear fog light from factory, however during years of use age, fog light was taken off when imported to US. I am in the process to re-connect replacement light fixture, acquired from Classic Center, Germany some years ago. Was still new in the old type of MB box. The rear driver’s side bumper has the hole for attaching the light below the bumper, and center console has the switch in place. It looks to me that the wiring harness was cut to delete the light. Any diagram?

Hi,
attached some documents for rear fog light installation. See Tech Man too.
For the wiring I need another small time to look for.

Hi,
sorry, I couldn't find an original wiring but see my paintings.
There could be some variations according to special country regulations (e.g. RFL with headlight turned on only).
I have added the Technical Manual accordingly.

Thanks WRe. This should help. Now I will trace the wire from switch. Again thanks, Bob

Can anyone share what type and style fog lamp I would be looking for to do the same? Maybe a part number is Mercedes still offers these?

Handful of info in this thread: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=2835.msg16204#msg16204

You will get more by search function typing in "rear fog light" in the window, including parenthesis.

Good picture is also in option codes descriptions, option code 462.

Also try our "wanted to buy" forum.  Maybe one of our hoarders, er, umm, I mean collectors, has one they would like to sell.   ;D

If you search on ebay for 'Bosch rear fog light', you'll find a bunch that look like the pictures Joe posted in the thread Pawel provided, starting at $125:

There's also some that look like the one WRe posted in reply #2 above:

Coincidentally, a couple of weeks ago, I was adjusting my rear bumpers and noticed the extra hole in the left one, as well as the grommet in the body for the wiring. I was wondering what those were and this thread clarified that for me.

If you are talking about one hole in the left rear bumper - it is not for the fog light, it is more a drain. For the rear fog light you should have two holes, more or less 1/3 of bumper length from outside, close to bumper edge. They are about 6mm diameter, maybe 1.5cm apart from each other.

The bracket for fog light is screwed to bumper by two screws.

Hi Pawel,

That's right, there are two drain holes---one outboard and one inboard. Then, in addition, there are two holes close to each other, as you say, about one third of the bumper length from the outside, which I guess are for the light. Not far from that location, there's also the grommet in the body for the wiring.

The right bumper has the same drain holes, but not the additional holes for the light.

Yes, exactly, those two small ones next to each other are for the bracket for rear fog light. I had to fabricate the bracket... Since my car went through restoration, I did not have the hole for the wire and I decided not to make one. I routed wires up there to fuel sender and used its passage above the trunk floor. But you have it the correct way.

I am picking up my car early next week and will look. I believe the bumpers are original, but the light is not there and most likely hasn’t been for a LONG TIME.

I am not really interested in mounting it, but since it is correct for the car, something fun to search for…
