Title: Prices for Pagoda when new.
Post by: MikeSimon on December 24, 2022, 17:20:03
I found records of what the original owner paid for my 280SL in November 1970. I would like to put something together showing the base price plus options for every model. Germany, UK and US, maybe other countries. If anybody has information about their car when bought new or similar, please send me an e-mail mike.simon70@yahoo.com or post here.

Mike, here is a copy of the order confirmation for my 1969 280SL which includes detail pricing of the various options.  You may need to zoom in to be able to read some of the numbers.

Is anybody here who owns a late - after July 1970- 280SL with 5 factory installed alloy (Bundt) wheels? And has a record of the original option cost?

Very interesting, Gary. Comparing this (partial) list with other information, at first glance it would seem it is a later model list. Howver, some of the prices are all over the place. i would not be surprised if MB changed the list prices for the U.S. maybe twice a year, adjusting for fluctuating exchange rates.

Hey Mike, I've attached the original window sticker for my car, a 1971 registered car but built in late 1970 if I remember correctly.

Best,

Rahul

Mike, here is the front and back of a price list similar to that posted by Gary just above. This one is dated October 1970.

The window stickers for the US cars all show the hardtop and automatic tranny included in a base price. not listed as separate options.

. . . . my car, a 1971 registered car but built in late 1970 if I remember correctly.
Rahul, your VIN is partially cut off in your window sticker attachment but the last digits appear to be 216xx or 218xx which would indicate October 1970 production per our technical manual.

My 250SL was delivered May 20 1967 and my 280SL was delivered September 18 1968. Not shown on the 250's sticker was the dealer installed Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio and power antenna $170.
