Title: 3 excellent Pagodas at Monterey...
Post by: ghenne on July 23, 2023, 13:44:23
There look to be 3 top-shelf 230SL’s coming up for auction. Does not happen often:

It’s nice to see some beautiful 230SL’s commanding such high estimates.  Each looks lovely in these presentations.

The first two are MB Classic Center restorations. I couldn't find mention of the third. While no restoration is inexpensive, the CC restorations can be more costly than most.

I could never understand why so many of the rear quarter chrome strips are mis-aligned or missing altogether? The third example here has this also...

Where are the chrome strips missing?

I think the chrome strips are misaligned on the last one. They are lined up with the top edge of the rear bumper but should be aligned to the bottom edge ?

I'm familiar with the first one.  My friend owned it.  It was remarkable BEFORE it was restored by Classic.  Drove beautifully.

Now I know what my Arabian Grey would look like if re-applied fresh.

Rodd, the description says that it is graphite gray.  Here's an example of arabian gray

Wow. All 3 are stunning.  It is good to see these value estimates.
Interesting to see that the last 2 have the euro headlights.
I wonder if they are orig euro market cars or not ?

In a judged competition would installing euro headlights in a US market car lose you points ?

I think the only judged competition where it would matter is in an MBCA Concours. My guess is it might be a tie breaker kind of thing...and maybe if there were a "mix" of Euro and non Euro items it may have some points or fractions removed, you know--USA bumper overriders and Euro lights, etc.
