Mine earn their keep by performing regular vermin patrols.  They are extremely dedicated and thorough.

A Doberman, a Poodle and a Siamese cat all died on the same day and went to heaven.  Each was interviewed by God before being admitted.  First, God asked the Doberman why he should be allowed in heaven.  The Doberman replied, "I guarded my family faithfully for many years and they always felt safe.  As I got older, they brought in a replacement, and I happily trained him."  God said, "Well done, come sit on my right."  Then He asked the Poodle the same question.  The Poodle replied, "All the children in my family loved to play with me and we had great times together.  Even the parents joined in!"  God said, "Bringing joy is a gift, come sit on my left.  Finally, He turned to the Siamese cat, but before He could utter a word the Siamese said, "I think you're sitting in my seat!"
