Title: Soft top lid chrome seal
Post by: VikDasor on August 31, 2023, 15:31:34
Dear All,

My name is Vik and based in the UK, although I have been a member for a year and the information provided on this forum has been sufficient for me to carry out all the projects I have done so far to my W113 and this is the first time I am posting so just wanted to introduce my self to the Pagoda community first and I hope someone can advise me as they may have tackled this issue. I have been partially restoring my 1966 230SL in Havana Brown for the past year and I have now come to a stage where I have removed all the outer chrome to be rechromed and I have come across a small hurdle which I cannot find much information on. Basically upon removing the chrome strips on the soft top deck lid I realised there’s a 3/4mm wide rubber seal the runs across it underneath, If I was to remove that seal it will surely crack in bits and fall apart and I cannot get hold of the seal anywhere as no one stores it.
So just wanted to ask if some one has come across this and how they resolved it or is there an other alternative.

The original part number of the seal is 001 987 6125. I will also post pictures of this later today.

Many thanks and any comments highly appreciated.

If I remember correctly, I couldn't find it eirther and used a generic neoprene weather stripping seal. You can buy it in different sizes (width and thickness) on amazon.

Hi Dirk,
Many thanks for your reply. I will certainly find out about the neoprene weather seals and update on the forum.

If anyone has any other ideas and please let me know. 🙏

Are you asking about the hatch cover seal or something else?

Here is a link to SLS in Germany that shows the soft top seal #40. Is this what you are looking for?

The seal I am talking about is the one that sits under the decorative chrome strip/moulding on the (horseshoe) soft top lid.
Please see more pictures below. It’s the black seal embedded in the chrome. (The chrome is currently upside down)

Never seen this before and I've seen a lot of 113's over the past 35 years. New one on me.  ???
