Title: Locating The VIN Plate
Post by: sam on October 03, 2023, 12:56:52
The VIN plate on my 1971 280SL was removed but not restored when the car was painted years ago..  Can anyone out there tell me exactly where the VIN plate should be restored.  See photos attached of car and VIN plate.

Sam,

To attach photos, below your text input window use the + sign for "Attachments and other options" and select the files that way.

Hello Sam, as far as i know, US supplied 280's had the VIN plate fixed in the drivers door jamb, have a look on here, hopefully you'll find the fixing holes still there

Yours is a late 280sl (1970, 1971). The VIN plate goes on the B-pillar for USA cars.  Earlier cars had it in the A-pillar.

Your would be like this photo if USA car (pulled from internet)
