Title: Windlace Pictures
Post by: JimEast on February 05, 2024, 20:14:09
Hi all, beginning to reinstall my interior and have a request. I am installing the windlace in the back of the door jambs. Does anyone have any close up pictures of theirs I can use as reference? Appreciate it in advance!

Oh, it's weather stripping, or seals.  Never heard windlace before.  Learn something new every day.

I searched this sub-forum for door seal and found 90 discussion threads.  I looked through a few, you should look through the rest.  Here's a couple with pics.

No Rod, its the vinyl or leather trim that goes on the metal at the front and back of the door frame.

Mine was poorly reinstalled by a previous owner.

To quote Monty Python, "tis a silly name".  There's no wind there, and it's not lace material.

A search on this sub-forum for windlace gets 12 threads (including this one).  Hopefully JimEast has seen these.

I won't debate the name as silly or not. However, its purpose (read the information about it) is to add another method of sealing against wind infiltration (there's the wind part) and it's made with a cord material which is often called lace, as in shoelace...don't know the origin of this word, nor of "welting" which is a similar material that they used to place between fenders and body on cars in the early 20th century.
