Title: Trunk luggage strap dimensions
Post by: Ronmurr on April 29, 2024, 18:38:28
Just wondering if anyone knows the width and approximate length of the luggage straps for the trunk. The one that hooks into the two brackets.  looking to have one custom made.  thanks

Someone may have the overall dimensions, but in the meantime you can use the search function, fourth item over from "Home" on the forum page. I used "luggage strap" (without the quote marks) and got a single page of hits. No exact dimensions, but there are some close up photos that show how the strap fits into the brackets in the trunk that should give you some idea.

According to the info from the German site, these are 25mm wide, 2.5mm thick. One is aprrox. 29.5cm and the other one is 78cm long.
Do you have the pins / hardware?

Could that be determined by measuring the brackets/anchors?

Ron,
See attached. Again, borrowed from the German forum.
Let me know if you find someone who can make the straps. (PM me) I am interested too. I can make to pins.

This is easy enough to reproduce and there are plenty of leather workers who can do this.

If we can get some more accurate measurements, leather color, etc. we can put out RFQs.

I had mine made, I will try to find the leather smith who did these straps. This was about 15 years ago I had them made. They are made from original old MB parts stock that the leather smith had in his possession to use as a pattern for these belts. Can’t remember cost, but back then maybe $100. Male end is 78cm long, female end (with buckle) is 30cm, thickness (two layers) 2.5-3mm, and width is 25mm. They are stitched along both sides, with two belt loops. Mine is in black, but he can stain in different colors. The pins are made of stainless steel bar. I will look tomorrow for his contact information.

I would also be interested in one set.

Maybe something that could be done as a group buy if there is a supplier.

I made the pins from a 1/4" diameter socket wrench extension  ( It is already chromed and the ends just need to be filed and polished if you are anal like me.)  Just cut the pin lengths to equal the width if the brackets, then chamfer the cut ends for safety.  You need four.

I searched the site and found Ollie Dare.  He is still making these to OEM specifications.  Got mine today.
Ollie said it would be OK to post his contact information.
His website was hacked so you can't go there but email and phone are good.
I was just looking to set up a display for local car shows, Cars & Coffee etc.
I found two pieces of Hartmann luggage in excellent condition at a local thrift shop for $30 US each.
