1966 230SL.
Has anyone removed the white cover off of the back of the clock? There are two tiny nuts, and a round puck like object that appeared to be holding the cover on. When I removed those, the plastic cover could be removed only to a point. The three pins for ground, light power and clock power slid nicely through the casing so they were not the issue. But it appears there is a brown wire that may be thing that is restraining removal. I'm reluctant to try more firmly to remove the cover since it seems something is clearly restraining doing so.
Thank you,
Harry

There are a few videos on line which may help, although this one already has the cover off, so shouldn't be too difficult

It is the brown ground wire that makes it difficult to remove the white housing. You need to tilt it towards where the wire holds it, like shown on one of the pictures.
Do not place the clock on its face while working on it or you will break away the adjuster knob and/or the transparent collar around it. Then you will have to fabricate new "glass", which is possible but takes some time and effort.
