Title: Camshaft Availability
Post by: Harry on July 01, 2024, 18:43:38
1966 230SL.

Hello.  I am just checking for the availability and source for a camshaft for this car.  Are they still available?  If so, who is the source(s)?

Thanks,
Harry

Hi Harry,

Do you have the old cam shaft? When I purchased my 1966 230SL it had one lobe that was nearly gone due to not getting any oil from the oil tube. I knew it had a real problem, but I bought it that way.

I sent the cam shaft to a place in Texas I think. They "spray welded" it and then ground it to factory specs. When I got it back, it looked like new. That was 22 years and 60,000 miles ago.

I keep records and receipts of everything I do to my cars. If it will help you, I'll look through my records.

Have you checked the usual parts suppliers including the classic center? They likely have them.

Yes, they are. A 180 051 84 01. Pick up a phone and call Mercedes dealer (or Classic Center in the US). They should be able to help upon providing your VIN or engine number.
