Title: Standard short pump?
Post by: rwmastel on August 13, 2024, 14:25:02
Yesterday I finally got a look at my electric fuel pump for the first time in forever.  I was expecting it to have a metal Bosch ID tag, or a stamped MB or Bosch part number, but all I see is a Bosch logo on top and bottom.

Is this a standard short pump?  I want to buy a rebuild kit.

It is a factory short fuel pump, looking to be in very good condition.

It is a factory short fuel pump
Joe,
Whe you say "factory", is there something about it that looks factory original from Oct 1966, or do you simply mean it is a "correct" short pump?  Thanks.

It is a correct short style Bosch fuel pump. It is not from Oct 1966 as your car would have originally came with the long style. I just switched my 280SL from long to short last week.

As Joe mentioned it appears to be in very good condition. If you just clean the propeller and hook 12v up to it I bet it will work.

It's been sitting 15 years with typical ethanol blend fuel in it, but I guess there's no harm in trying to simply clean and test.  Probably this coming weekend.  I'll put some hoses on it, try bench testing with fuel, and test the volume.  Is it one liter/second?

Wait, how do I bench test with fuel if safety protocol says "no electric motor near fuel vapor"?

Use kerosene instead of diesel fuel. Do it outside also!
