Title: Flasher unit query
Post by: Merc_Girl on August 28, 2024, 22:14:22
Hi eminent pagoda owners!

So, the ‘ticker’ sound of my indicator unit stopped working. A new ‘buzzer’ has been fitted, which works perfectly well apart from the sound it makes is intensely annoying! You feel that after each ‘beep’ will be followed by the words ’warning, vehicle reversing’!!!

I’m just wondering if anyone might be able to recommend a beeper that sounds more mechanical than large vehicle reversing warning!

I’ve read the tech manual and there do seem to be modern replacement flasher units, but I see these have bayonet connections rather than round. Other than cutting the wires to install a female connecting unit, is there a way to convert the spade to the MB cylindrical connections?

With thanks in advance
Katie

Dear Katy

This one wil work with minor modifications. Has also pin style terminals, just may need the repositioning of pins inside the connector bakelite to match terminals.

When installing it, just send me detailed pictures of the back of the unit to match lines.

And finally the other solution is to install a hazard relay sub harness on your w113-230 or 250 sl.

This sub harness takes over the function of the original flasher relay.  So you will not need it any more since the hazard/flasher relay performs both functions.

...

Yes.
Here is what I did, last photo shows my current version; originalists probably won't like it.  ;)

I'm confused.  Katie asked for "a beeper that sounds more mechanical than large vehicle reversing warning!".  In reply, she's pointed to relays.  Do the relays make the turn signal noise in the car?

The clicking sound is the mechanical contacts opening and closing, i'm not sure how modern "relays" recreate this sound, clearly Katie's relay has a modern bleeper/buzzer fitted, which i agree would drive you nuts

If this is still available, it might be the last one, although only good for those who still have filament lamps

Ok, I understand.  Are original relays NLA?

Ok
I have LED lights installed,. My understanding is that ‘traditional’ relays, for tungsten lamps won’t work

So I think my question may be
Does anyone know of a flasher unit, for LED lamps, that are able to make a ‘mechanical’ sound? 🙄

This one will work and has the authentic "click"

As with most replacements it has spade terminals, so will need to be modified and bullet type connectors soldered on
