Hi, im in the process of restoring my 280 SL. Would anyone be kind enough to explain where the little motor that sprays water on to the windshield attaches itself in the engine compartment? This is the first time for over 28 years that my car is going to have this re-installed.
thanks

John,
On a left hand drive car, the windscreen washer pump is located at the top of the left rear-most corner of the engine compartment. It is approximately 9 cm long, mounted horizontally. The washer fluid bottle is located between the break booster and a small metal "shelf" mounted on the left inner fender panel, just forward of the pump. From there you can trace the fluid lines. I just replaced mine and they are available from Mercedes.

Stan

I had to replace my windshield washer bag because it had split. The replacement looks to be the same, but the new cap is different. The old, metal, one had a single hose coming out. The metal cap will not fit the new bag, whose cap has attachments for two hoses. What to do with the extra hole in the new cap?

Hello Joe - I saw one of these new washer bags on a car last weekend at the tech session and it has the top with the two holes (and even a third one on top, closed off by what looks like a tiny beer bottle cap). You need to seal off the second hole because if you don't, no water will be pumped out since the air will just escape out of the open hole. Not sure what would work best, perhaps a little dab of silicone sealer?
