Title: 265/6 Getrag
Post by: cfm65@me.com on December 01, 2024, 15:22:22
Hi Guys,
About 5 years ago, I successfully installed a BMW 265/6 Getrag overdrive transmission in my 67 250SL and LOVING IT.
There were obviously electronics gadgets, between the fuel injection system and the original auto gearbox, which had to be disconnected and/or removed.
Could anyone, please give me a heads-up on which of these gadget should be removed/disconnected or discarded, as well as the procedures involved in securing the electrical wiring of these gadgets.
My SL is running fine, but I am weary that I might have missed something important.
Much appreciated.

Ahoy Chris,

My understanding is the constant speed solenoid at least has to be deleted, but I can't imagine what other electrical things. I think Colin (Stickandrudderman) has some experience with auto -> manual swaps and could advise on what other vestigial equipment should have been removed.

There 3 things to worry about:
1. The three position solenoid
2. The in-gear-idle solenoid
3. The inhibitor switch.

I would have though that you simply isolated the wires to these items when you did the conversion.
The inhibitor switch and the in-gear-idle solenoid certainly of value on the second hand market.

Thanks Jack and Colin,
Yes, I am quite sure I have done what is required. However, since I now have a cold start problem, I have this niggly feeling that I might have missed something.
I’ll attempt to ID the 3 units Colin pointed out as well as the constant speed solenoid Jack mentioned.
Regards
Chris
Ps, Colin, could assume “in gear idle” solenoid is the constant speed solenoid, mentioned by Jack?

If you have a look on here, it shows the additional equipment installed for an auto car, it's for a 280, but i would have thought 230's and 250's would be the same

I'm not an expert, but i can't see anything that would cause a cold start issue, as far as i know the cold start components are common to manual and auto cars
