Classic Porsche longhood in Los Angeles, California. Enjoy the simple, old-school, analog (non-computerized) experience of owning one of the last carbureted open-air, air-cooled Porsches. The 911T was built as a touring car -- meant to take the top off and cruise in style, which it does, wonderfully.
This original, unmolested very good driver-quality, long-wheelbase longhood (F-model) 1970 Porsche 911T Targa was built in October 1969, and imported into Los Angeles in December 1969. Originally Irish Green, it was disassembled and resprayed red by a previous owner, features a flawless black leatherette interior, and is powered by a 2.2-liter flat-six paired with a freshly-rebuilt (<500 miles) original 4-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes S-package instruments and oil tank with level sensor, 15″ Fuchs wheels (with Fuchs spare), a brushed stainless steel Targa bar, a black removable roof panel, locking front hood, heater, heated rear window, newer carpeting and coco mats, front and rear seat belts, and a custom shift knob. This 911T Targa is offered with a clean California title.
The car features H1 headlights with Bosch 4487 lenses (used on SWB) that follow the slope of the fender, rather than the H4 lenses with sharp edge at the top (“sugar scoop” headlights are included in sale), a driver-side mirror, square-lipped chrome exhaust tip, original partial tool kit/pouch, original owner’s manual with plastic pouch, and original keys with pouch.
15″ Fuchs wheels feature new 195/65R15 Continental TrueContact Tour tires. All brake lines have been replaced, and the front discs were replaced/overhauled in 2019.
The cabin is upholstered in black leatherette, which was customized by a previous owner who worked in the custom upholstery department at the Porsche Reutter plant in Stuttgart. It features customized French seam stitching along the edge of the instrument gauge binnacle and along the edges throughout the cabin. Additional equipment includes a locking glove box, a period-correct refurbished Blaupunkt Frankfurt AM/FM stereo radio, and a custom shift knob.
The four-spoke wrapped steering wheel fronts a 150-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,400-rpm redline, a clock (not working), and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 61XXX miles, and the total mileage is unknown.
The air-cooled 2.2-liter flat-six is engine number *6106040* which is correct for the car model/year (911/07 911T – 6105001 to 6107999, North America). Power is sent to the rear wheels through the original 911/00, #7000247, 4-speed manual transmission, which was recently rebuilt (12/23). (note: If 4 speed was good enough for the 930 turbo, it was good enough for me 8))
Work done over the last 5k miles consisted of partial engine rebuild, rebuilding the Weber carburetors, replacement of clutch disc and release bearing, pilot bearing assembly, resurface flywheel/pressure plate and balance the assembly, new CDI ignition and coil, and rebuild/replace front brakes. Recent work includes new engine mounts, fresh complete transmission rebuild (<500 miles) by Benton Performance, new front and rear shock absorbers, new turbo tie rods, new CV axles, new tires, wheel alignment, carburetor tuning, new spark plugs and points, valve adjustment, timing, air and fuel filter change, and oil/filter change.
Over the last 5k miles the following components were installed/replaced:
- Turbo lower valve covers and gaskets
- Chain tensioner update kit
- New CDI ignition and coil
- New high torque starter
- New oil tubes
- New batteries
- New muffler
- New heater control valves
Since I’ve owned it (12/2021; ~1000 miles):
- New spark plugs, points
- New engine mounts
- New shifter ball socket, rod guide and coupling bushings
- New solid-state relays for headlights
- LED conversion for gauges and all interior lights
- LED/relay conversion for exterior turn/stop lights
- New front and rear Koni Classic shocks
- Completely rebuilt transmission (Benton Performance (12/23), with build sheet)
- New engine and trans seals
- New CV axles
- New Lemfoerder turbo tie rods; wheel alignment
- New Continental TrueContact Tour 195/65R15 tires

Yes, I've considered BAT and followed pricing, but being on BAT seems like getting a colonoscopy, with all the commentary from the "experts" in the peanut gallery who feel the need to make their opinion heard.
I'm currently on Hemmings and Hagerty, but I may reconsider BAT in the spring.

Your car is absolutely stunning Gary, I saw it in person as you know (thanks again for the Heinekens!) and BAT can bring a premium, depending on how the stars align to the average humidity on that particular day. I am planning to sell my Lancia on BAT in the coming months and will for sure hire a professional photograph to do the pictures and videos - through BAT it's not all that expensive and I think your car would really 'pop'.

Totally agree! Would not do BaT. Lately BaT has introduced a "behind the scenes" policy that they only accept certain "for sale" auctions that are sort of unique, no longer "run of the mill" items. While I have no doubt that your 911 would be accepted, your comment about "experts" in the peanut gallery is spot on. You get these "what a beauty" comments which are totally useless. The posters seem to be employed by BaT to "butter up the auctions". several friends of mine in the Porsche community have sold their cars on rennlist.com. It is not an auction site but has a lot of knowledgeable and eager buyers. All Porsche enthusiasts. Last car we sold was a 1985 3.2 Carrera for a pretty good price.
