If it looks too good to be true, it probably isn't.
There is nothing more expensive than a great deal on an old Mercedes.
I am sure there are many more to add, but all I can say, Odrec, is that this is definately not your "DREAM CAR!!!!!"

Best,

Here's a detailed primer from one restoration shop:

($1,800 would be a low price even for a parts car, so I've got to think this SL is pretty rough.)

$18,000 would be a below market price...$1800 is either a scam or a really bad salvage vehicle.

Well fellas, this is the third world and resale value of vintage cars is $hit.

I have always wanted a vintage Mercedes convertible so I have been looking around for cars in my area. A W111 (I think that was the number) in great condition, running and used as a weekend car by the owner went for $11,000. About two weeks later I saw a W107 hard-top in mint stock condition, and I do mean it, it was in the house of the German ambassador totally restored and given to him as a gift. His wife sold it for $9,000. So a $1800 230SL is probably in not in as bad condition as you may think. Here for car dealers the lower the year number the lower the price. PERIOD.

I have driven past the sellers house but have only seen a W129 and a W123.

I will report back as soon as I see it on monday.

I appreciate your replies and help.

Where in the world are you located? There may be some other member(s) around that could be of assistance.

Mike, when do you get to Seoul.

I live here and have been here for the last 3 years, lets get together if you have time.

Odrec, if you are in Korea, I can help you inspect the car..no problem, or meet and give you some guidance, mind you -15C is not the best weather for clambering around under cars!!

Hi Rob I'm here in Seoul now, staying at the Millennium Seoul Hilton until Jan 21st.  Would this count as the first group event in South Korea?  :D

By the way where did we get the info that Odrec is in Korea as I cannot see this from his messages.
I have seen a black Pagoda on the road and it looked superb, most unusual if there are 2 here!

Odrec great to meet up with you also if you wish.

Rob Korea was just a shot in the dark, I have no idea where our new buddy Odrec is. Monday or Tuesday would be fine,or next week. I'm not sure what time I'm getting off work, may not be back to the hotel untill after 7pm. I'm working at GM/Daewoo, about an hour from the hotel by subway, if you pick a day I can try to get off earlier, hard to belive that I'm half way around the world and there's a pagoda owner next store. 8)

Well, my visit to the owner turned out to be an appointment for several potential buyers that turned into an auction ending in $30,000. Sad thing though, it was bought by a car salesman who basically towed to his lot and placed a price tag of $35000.

Dream on...
