Take a look at this low mileage 1972 250c. I have always liked the look of these coupes and the later 300cd. The car looks pretty good with the exception of the roof. The trunk looks spotless and has the apearence of never being used.
I am not afiliated with seller or have any intrest in this auction.

Yeah that's a pretty coupe hauser. Looks like it has received TLC. I bet the roof might be made to look better with some treatments and not even need repaint, too. Had a later 300CD w123 that was nice, but this earlier gasoline car is much classier. Are you bidding on that car? Is it a manual? The eBay bidding wars certainly are working on that one right now.
-
That's a nice car, Hauser. It has electronic fuel injection and the newer automatic which shifts much better. I also like the seats on those models better: They are wider and deeper. If you have the room for another car go for it! One more thought: If you win the auction, fly to CA and inspect the car (and ask to inspect the title) before you hand over money. Call me paranoid.
-
I don't think that car is injected. The injected 114s never made it over here.
Nonetheless, it's good to see the carbs were rebuilt. Those are tricky on a 114.

So it seems he won't be buying this one!

Good looking coupe. Having never watched this particular model, I'm not one to assess the current price but it seems like a good deal at this point.
The seller says the roof only looks bad due to some early morning condensation so I'm not sure it would really require any work at all.
Buy it Hauser! :D

So does this mean you're not interested in the car or does this mean that you have no personal stake in its sale?
I can see how there's more than one way to interpret your statement.

i guess I must have a little bit of everything around here. I do have a 114 fuel injected coupe with a very strong engine. Kind of a beat up car with 4 on the tree. Kind of matches the 250C and 280C I have.

Beautiful car,
I owned one around 10 years ago.All I can say is that it was one nice ride and a maintenance-free Merc.
I used it as an every day car.

"maintenance-free MBZ" ....?
they are all maintenance-free - for a while :)
-
The CE was injected, right?
-
The 250CE uses D jet electronic injection similar to a 280SE 3.5/4.5 or an early 450SL. Same power as a 250SL and very similar intake manifold as a ' 71 280SL.
Some cars had floor shift while others still had the older style shifter by the steering wheel.

When did they lose the 4speed column shifter? I previously thought that went away with the fintails, had no idea it was continued into the '70s.
-
It was around on the 114's and 108 sedan until the end of production which is about '72. I think 114/115's were made until '76. Probably by ' 73 or '74 it was all floor shift but euro cars might of had it longer.

All I can say is I have purchased a w114 coupe 250C/8 with the as original 2.8L engine 130.923. I had not imagined the unassuming w114 would be such a pleasant and simply quality ride. Looking forward to many miles. The cost was a fraction of the cost of this vehicle. These 114 coupes have not yet come into their own, I believe. A mint, rustfree LA car really can be had for much less than the cost of a bad rusty 113 parts car.

This is kind of related -- but much sadder...
The other day I drove up on a fender-bender out on a rural road here. Tow-truck was attending what I believe was a 1962 190? (Not an SL -- a sedan I believe). I had seen the car around town -- it has "historical vehicle plates" and was a nice original little car. Front end is an accordian now. Nobody was hurt -- thats the good part.

Sounds like good absorption of the impact energy to me. A good safe car for the occupants and also the other car's occupants.

........thats a sweet looking car Chad and I think you are correct about them "not coming into their own" !
Yours is exactly like one used in Larry Davids "Curb Your Enthusiasm", love that show, his female lawyer drives it !
Anyway there are very few of those cars left on this side of the world as they rusted even quicker than the earlier cars and their value makes restoration or major repair totally uneconomical !

Thanks Ben. It needs a few things like door map pockets replaced and to find a nice original steering wheel, but other than that it's in nice original shape for not much invested. I enjoy the Larry David show myself and it's the only thing I really watch on TV other than this show call Mythbusters. I know the episode you are referring to, it is the Interior Decorator one. Anyway, this car is the twin, except this one has the Bundt cake wheels on it. I guess a prior owner wanted to modernize the look some with those wheels.
The carbs seem to be working fine so far.
