I have a 1966 230SL. The Becker radio does not work well and I would like to remove it for repair. What is the best way to remove it without damaging the dash? Thanks for any input.

Pull the knobs and fader switches off. The pull off their spindles straight twoards you
Pry off the fascia
Behind that are the two vertical locking bars that clasp the thing in the dash. Loosen the nuts a bit, lift them up and pull out the bottom (or vice versa) and then the thing should slide right out.

James, no offence taken...
It's probably the ONE thing I can do with my eyes closed on a Pagoda. In fact, I even did it once while driving along.
Explanations of bushes, gaskets and valve sleeves may as well be Swahili to me.
Getting your radio out, I know how to do!

Not that simple on a 230. It takes the old style radio with a small rectangular aperture and separate holes for the two spindles which actually hold the radio to the central plate which is removable (unless its already been cut open for the din size aperture).
From what I can remember, the glove box will have to come out to remove the clock, and also the center piece of the lower padding and the thin chrome strip. A search on glove box and heater levers will show how to remove these items.
Not sure if the radio will come out of the back of the dash once the glove box and clock are out of the way.

Ahh. I am afraid Naj is right (as usual!). Mine and Tosh's are both the later 113 Becker variety. In my case, the original was replaced with a larger stereo and the radio plate was expanded. Luckily, I was able to get a later 113 Europa to fit the "modified" opening....
