Title: Hello from germany, i need help
Post by: Werbefuzzi on June 28, 2006, 07:14:54
Hello,

i`m new here. My name is stephan, u would call it steve i guess.
I live in germany in the region called Ruhrgebiet.

I have a problem.
I`m intersted in buying a 280 sl.
I found a lot on ebay.
But for the long distance it is very difficult to see if the car is in good condition. So a friend of mine, member in the german pagodetreff.de told me, that i can possibly get help here.
Maybe someone knows the car, or lives there and can have a look before buying.
So it were very nice if someone would tell me something about these 2 following cars:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=130001742811&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

and

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=190001650497&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Hoping for ur help
with best wishes from germany

Hi Stephan,

Welcome to the group.  I am on the west coast, so I can't help you with those cars, but you can also look at Roy Spencer's site http://www.oursl.com/ or this one http://www.showroomcars.com/ they both know the pagoda well and you don't have to bid on the cars.

Tell us more about what you are looking for.  A restored car, or a project, 230/250/280, automatic/stick, etc.

Hi Pete,

the car i`m searching for should be rust and accident free.
I prefer an automatic 280sl, but however, if its an very pretty 230 with stick, no problem. It should be no project, wanna buy and drive.
I guess my problem will be the price.
I`m searching for a car round about 20K $.
Maybe i will have a little bit luck.

Greetings from germany
Stephan

Stephan,

You are doing the right thing by asking for someone to visually inspect and drive the car.  Whoever does this for you must be someone you trust!  Perhaps they could take the car to another mechanic for a "second opinion".

Thanks Rodd,

thats the reason why i`m writing here.
Without the help of the members here, i guess it will be very difficult for me, because of the long distance.
Maybe in some days or weeks, i`m a proud owner of a pagode.
I hope so.

Regards
Stephan

Stephan,

The silver car looks quite nice but they seem (as many do) to use the term "restored" loosely. It does not appear as though the engine has been touched. I bet you can add a "1" in front of the claimed mileage.

The brown car appears nicer but is based in Eastham, Massachusetts (Northeastern US) in an area known as "Cape Cod". Cape Cod is a curved penninsula that juts out into the Atlantic ocean, In the summer there is salt in the air and winter they use salt on the roads to melt the snow. Salt usually means RUST.

If a car shows up in S Florida (yet another penninsula that juts out into the Atlantic ocean), email me and I can look at it for you. In the meantime, check out the sites that Pete mentioned or even www.motoringinvestments.com for more information.

Good luck on your quest.

Kevin

PS: No 113's on German eBay?
