Wow! Any idea what the story is behind it? Why it was in the river, and for so long?

Whoa. Talk about sunken treasure...
I'd take the tail lights though. (just saw the full rear end shot...)
Danke Detlef.

If you could get the VIN, this one would be a good one for our Registry!

How much for the gas gap and horn pad?
Wanna bet this car shows up on ebay??? I can see the ad now... some surface rust...has been hidden away for years...orig miles (kms)...easy to fix...many years of enjoyment ahead! A real SURVIVOR.

Where did you find these pics? Are those from August 2000? Is the car still alive?
Although it is definitely a sad view, this car should be preserved. It is as valuable as anything you'll get from the Titanic or so - only more useful (at least for us).
It is also interesting to see that some materials show stronger deterioration than others: especially casted materials and all aluminium suffered stronger than the sheet metal. For instance the horn ring is gone and other diecast parts also.
It still has the original Becker Grand Prix (supposingly) - thus it is most likely a 1964 or early 1965.
:)
Any chance to track the VIN (Fahrgestellnummer)? ;)

Hello Friends.
The Pagode was only found few weeks ago in the Neckar.
Coincidentally. She lay 35 years in the river.
In one photo she already stands on a motorcar-trailer.
Possibly someone bought it.
Perhaps does she already stand in the next year on the Techno
Classica in Essen und the Show-Stand from Mercedes-Classic-
Center? "1th Hand, little kilometer and guarantees complete
history, 110.000 Euro..."

Regrettably restauration had not proceeded enough to allow the seller to put a price on it. Also it did not get there under it's own power. :)

I was told the German Pagode Club owns it now. it was 'displayed' on their stand at the Classica.

I never said anything about Neckar River water...jeez, even the aluminum is trashed.
But no matter. Just go to your local junkyard, pick up a few of the W108 and W111 parts you need, a little WD40 in the spark plug holes, and this baby will be cruising the autobahns in no time. ;)

Is this really true?
It's so beyond repair, but it just too cool to send to the crusher. I hope to hear and see more about this survivor.

I did a little research and found these on the Pagode web site. Great web site too bad I can't read German.
We need someone to translate the story.

Peter,
It is true, I saw the car with my own eyes.
This is the translation of the text belonging to the pictures:
'At the moment pictures of our water corpse make the round in the internet: 30 years long a Mercedes Benz Pagoda laid in the Neckar. The SL-club Pagoda is now “the proudly” owner of this eye catcher. Pictures of this unique Pagoda you can find on our Pagoda club forum and on the following page.'
