Title: late gear change
Post by: nick350 on October 29, 2006, 14:23:40
I have had an exchange gearbox fitted and it sort of seems OK other than that now I have to get to about 45 mph before it finally changes into 4th then of course if I slow down it slips into 3rd too soon. I never seem to be in the appropriate gear. It was quite smooth until recently. Any ideas?

There is a (modulator valve?) pressure setting that, as far as I know, affects the shift points. Have you tried the search function on this site yet? There could also be relevant information here: http://www.sl113.org/articles/default.asp

The ignition timing also affects the vacuum that helps to regulate the transmission shift points, but I am assuming the ignition was not altered when the transmission was swapped out, so 'technically speaking' (that's a pun I believe) it should not be a factor in your situation?

Hello Nick,

These people have given a very nice write-up on the initial set up of these units. Take a look! http://www.mercedesdismantlers.com/16BoltInstallationInstructions.html
