What is a good source to buy this stuff?
Is this still recommended for sound proofing under the carpet?
What is recommended to reduce heat, and noise?
I just pulled out all of my carpet and all of the thick silver backed padding. In doing this I also ended up pulling out all of the tar-like stuff that was originally applied to the floors. Alot of it pulled up with the silver stuff. Sort of broke apart... so I went ahead and removed the rest with a putty knife..
Now I have nice metal floors... and no rust. Huraah!
I want to do this right, so what is recommended?
Thanks!!!

I found Summit Racing to have the most attractive price for foil backed Dynamat.

bob,
I used plain dynamat 12" squares, self sticking, AFTER epoxy priming floors. Sound great, no real heat issues, easy. Have my new square weave installed, quite thrilled. :D

I reviewed the Dynamat listings on the Summit Racing website... what thickness is right for the floor beneath carpet? I see .067"/.070" thickness listed, but that seems to thin... and the other thickness I see is 0.75", which seems too thick...

You should be able to get the dynamat at most any of the custom audio installers. I believe I bought some in the audio section at Best Buy the last time I needed it. I am not sure how the prices compare with Summit or others. Just check around. I am sure you can find it in Memphis.
Also, I have seen some articles that touted a spray on product called Lizard Skin. It supposedly has excellent heat and sound insulation qualities, and is relatively easy to apply. I intend to look into it the next time I have a need for insulation.
Anyway good luck on whatever You decide to use.

Thanks Everyone!
I found Dynamat Xtreme at Curcuit City to be the lowest price in my area. Will pick it up today. 5 sheets for $139. Each sheet is 18"x39" (packaged as a "trunk kit" for car audio).
Thanks again!
