Title: ignition box?
Post by: andy on August 31, 2007, 05:01:25
What is the purpose of the small silver box under the battery on my 280sl 71 U.S.
I belive this box was damaged about 4 years ago when a garage put the battery on the wrong way round.
I have  just had electronic igition fitted, the guy told me that this box was not working,he said he can try to fix it,or if not, it does not really matter???,Like some input on this please.
Andy,
Spain.

The box under the battery tray is the transistorized ignition system provided by MB in the later 280SLs.  It is not needed if you have installed an electronic ignition system.
