do I remember that there was a post ( that I cant find ) regarding changing all the locks as part of a set so that there is just one key for all locks? SLS seem to offer one but it cant be €800 can it?

I'm afraid so....
At least that is the domestic price. For export it is €677.
SLS says it is MB who have upped the price from €411 to €677.

Hello, I am currently replacing the locks of my 280 SL... I have ordered a set to SLS ( they changed the price from 400 to 600 EUR ...), the quality of the set is good, coming from mercedes bentz... the set do not have the plastic parts ( "gaskets..") you should perhaps want to change them...

This is one luxury that will have to wait until the exchange rate is better.

I fear you'll have a long wait. The pound is not going to get much stronger for long...

Paul,
I thought your 280SL would already have a 1-key system. You have more than one key for opening all locks?

No, my car wasn't always as it is now...when I first took it to Roger Edwards, Cedric said....
" I remember this car when it was green and needed A LOT of work " Actually I think the car was real rubbish once. I know that the last owner spent £30000 putting it back on the road, strangely though doing great work in some areas and then not in others like not replacing rusty cockpit screws when it was retrimmed, anyway I have 5..yes 5 keys.
I think I love my car, I certainly have been good to it and Roger Edwards and it does run really well now and I do a lot of miles, but sometimes I get tired of the constantly growing list of things I want to do, like these bluddy keys...why can't I accept that I have 5 and that's OK?

Hi paulr!
I've changed my (3) non-stock locks for the SLS set (it was before the price went up!) and believe me, this makes a HUGE difference in terms of general comfort!
I know the price can look somewhat dissuasive, but I think it's worth the expense.Actually, I feel now this is one of the best things I did for my beauty, don't even imagine going back to the old 3 key system .
My 2 cents, euh...euros,sorry , conscious this won't add to your own peace of mind!
