Title: 051 distributor ?

Morning all,
Dr Dan has been helping me with the distributor on my 66 230.
My 009 did not seem to be working correctly so he sent me an 051 which is what he had available.

anyway, i was doing some research on the 051 and from the parts photos it appears there is a spring and maybe a contact between the top of the rotor and the cap?
Is this item required?

I have attached an image from the mb cd. the item in ? is item 52

Yes, the carbon brush/spring is an integral part of the dist. cap.
