Peter Perry

Don't know the car personally, but do you think John Lennon rode around with Beatles memorabilia in the back seat like that? ;D

Peter,
Yes, up until recently this car had been on display at our local car museum, "Sarasota Classic Car Museum". The museum is privately owned by a collector who has amassed an amazing diversity of older and some very rare cars. The museum is a well-known gem for our area, but I've heard that he is selling off some cars lately. Maybe I'll pass by and take a test drive (yeah, right)

This car has been kicking around for awhile now, even on ebay. If you run a search on "John Lennon" you'll see it came up in this forum about a year and a half ago.
(That's an obscene price they're asking. I don't think celebrity cars go for a huge premium, unless they're synonymous with a particular historical event.)

Boy, I sure hope it sells for that! :o I would feel pretty good about the grand sum I paid for mine then!

Very interesting but looking at some of the photo’s brings a few questions to my mind.
1. Are the hub caps correct for this year car?
2. What is the switch under the dash on the drivers side for?
3. Why is the car not left in PARK?
4. The rear exhaust pipes do not have the correct chrome ends, has it all been changed?
5. Why is the under dash area looking so rough, has someone had it all apart and why?
6. Is that the original Radio?
I would have thought that John Lennon would have had a pretty Wiz Bag stereo in the car even in 1965, but I do not know any history of the car and why he bought it in the first place.
The car looks in overall pretty good condition, judging by the photographs, but I think it is an awful lot of money for a 230SL, it will be interesting to see if it sells at that kind of money in the current economic climate.

???
This car has appeared all over the planet in the last few years. Not so long ago I saw John Lennon's blue 280SL??? advertised in a British ad in a very popular car magazine. The photos of that car definitely showed a blue 280SL, not a 230SL. The price was quite a bit less. Maybe he owned both. I would be a bit skeptical.
For what it's worth, Ricky Nelson's red 230SL is for sale on eBay. Maybe Ricky and John discussed Pagodas at the Garden Party. Didn't Ricky see a Walrus there?
Must be time for my nap.

OK enough chaps. We all know the work Provence. But paying $495,000 for John Lenons 230SL is insane that is utterly
a person with more cash to burn than brains. I bet he play cassette taps with john Lenons songs to impress his friends who could give a Hutu.
