No one willing to offer an answer to this issue's quiz??

Not everybody has his/her issue. I don't!

I took the car out yesterday for a 15 mile drive to get gas and get it warmed up.  The car ran fine but it never got above 150.  After stopping I let it idle and got out my heat sensor.  I checked WRD, and the top of the radiator both were around 150.  While idling it eventually warmed up to around 180 and then the idle changed dramatically.  I stopped it and did a few idle mixture adjustment cycles to get a good idle.  The idle mixture had been set too lean previously due to the WRD still allowing extra fuel because the temperature cut off had not been reached.

Figuring I had a bad thermostat I decided to remove it and test it in a pan with hot water.  I removed the thermostat housing top.  See the picture below for what I found!

I understand it is the US lights adjustment. I am curious myself.

Drive train, fuel, suspension, steering & brakes / Re: ATE Front Brake Calipers

Aside from WhitePost, whose claim to fame is stainless steel sleeving of the calipers, there are plenty of other sources of rebuilding. Here are two:

Back when I was having the initial restoration of my car done, 1999-2001, I simply took the calipers to the local "Foreign Auto Parts" store in Michigan, and they sent them out. $40 each. Been working fine since then.

Jimbo1907, that is exactly what I needed to know.

I can't find anyone who currently has rebuilt ones to offer.

I was wanting to replace my Girling calipers with ATE's.

Did the aftermarket calipers come with hardware? What type of pads did you end up using?

Thanks, Tom

I have recommended 123s for years, and installed at least a dozen.  They are a great product but they are not infallible.

As I wrote in an earlier post, I had a 123 fail in a 250sl soon after installation.  The engine would simply not rev beyond idle.  Gernold at SL Tech had a similar failure in a twelve-year-old unit.  123usa repaired both units at no cost.

A 190sl with a 123 that I installed ran perfectly for over a year and then refused to start. I sent the unit to 123usa and they could not find any problems.  Almost out of desperation, I found that the coil wire had 5K ohms resistance.  I replaced it with a zero resistance wire and that solved the problem.  So my conclusion is that the 123s are sensitive to resistance which can increase as coil and plug wires age.

So here is my current thinking.  If you have a traditional distributor setup, you can carry a spare set of points, a condenser, a screw driver, and feeler gauges or a small dwell tester.  This will get you out of 99% of ignition troubles.  With a 123, Pertronix, or any of the other electronic setups, you are stuck if they fail.

Cheers,

CT

Hi,
It's the Gloucester Fisherman’s Memorial.
"Erected in 1925, this historic commemorative sculpture is a featured stop on the Maritime History of Massachusetts travel itinerary. Also known as the Man at the Wheel, the eight-foot, bronze statue is sometimes confused with the iconic image of the famed Gorton's Fisherman."

For sure the warning triangle is correct. I have the same one myself, in my European spec Pagoda. These warning triangles were monitory, you had to carry one in your car while living in Germany.
