Drive train, fuel, suspension, steering & brakes / Re: Rear spring rubber mounts

I guess your question is: which size of rubber pad should you use for the rear?

All three sizes are available at Mercedes. There are 6 sizes available for the front with 32.5mm being the highest.

In absence of knowledge and not being properly educated, I would probably go for the highest for the rear too, but I would check the height of the old pads and, having searched the "ride height" topic as well as having looked at the Technical Manual, calculate approx ride height.

But perhaps someone will chime in with a better answer and information what were the standard factory heights of the pads.

Wanted To Buy / Re: WTB Left outside door handle & belt Mlding

Note: The handle without the key cylinders are the same on both sides and common with other MB models of the era. The 70 and 71 Pagoda had 2 sided keys where previous models had 1 sided. The 2 sided keys slots are centered on the cylinder where the 1 sided keys slots favor the bottom of the cylinder as you face the slot. handles from later models may differ from earlier cars.

Brian Peters renowned Pagoda expert of Motoring Investments mentions these hand written numbers on his website. On his earliest documented restoration (the "Cave" car), he identifies a 2 digit number inside the left front headlight bucket as an inspection number. In his "Buyers Guide" he briefly discusses handwritten numbers on the back of interior panel and states:

" I'm not sure where this "274" number originates from but we are going to do a bit more automotive archeology and maybe answer that question."

That buyers guide is over a decade old. Perhaps in the meantime, he has confirmed what it means.

BTW. During the restoration of the mentioned car, he had a graphic artist replicate the handwritten numbers back inside the headlight bucket after painting.

Jeremy,

These cars have Body numbers and Production numbers.  The numbers you show are Production Numbers.

Body numbers are stamped into the metal parts such as Hood/Bonnet, hardtop, transmission plate, under the car …

Production numbers are hand-written or rubber stamped on leather pieces, these show up on backside of upholstered panels, behind glove box, underside of the leather on the soft top compartment lid, inside the windlaces, inside door panels, kick panels etc.

You might find the Production number on the plate in the engine compartment on the left side, next to the relays.  It would be on the bottom row of the plate — typically in the center, vs the body number is on the right side of the plate.

Usually the production number is several digits but only the last 3 digits or so are written on the panels.

These numbers are not related to colors or such.

The only numbers that I’ve seen on interior pieces, (that were upholstered), were the interior color/material codes. According to our Tech manual, 321 does not match up with any interior code on a W113. Don’t have an answer. Is your interior color a standard color? It looks like Cognac. Does anyone know if MB offered custom “Match to Sample” for interiors back in the 60”s? Maybe this is a custom code.

Jack, did you already found a forwarding address in the European Union?

Thankfully Ralph Neely on the board here has been a humongous help, and soon the parts will be on the way to me.

So request fulfilled! Thanks everyone who was keen to help.

I don’t remember what the red ring is for or if mine even had that. It would seal the fuel from leaking past onto the threads on the fitting if it did anything. I just don’t remember what mine had or if you need anything at all. I am away from the CSV for a few days. Should be easy to figure that out though.

Hi All, Hoping to find the Padre Pagoda. a '65 230SL Silver with Red interior. I wrote about years ago in 2017 on this forum. Link here

Hello, New member here from Minnesota. I have been lurking for some time. Registered today to post my new journey. Hoping to someday acquire a Pagoda and currently tracking one from 26 years ago that resided in a church parsonage's garage. It was a '66 silver car when I saw it in 1992. My wife and I were married in the adjacent church that year. Today I had lunch with my life long friend, the Padre that performed our wedding ceremony, and I asked him about the car.  Stored there for the owner as he was overseas, in later years the car was moved to a barn where mice had taken up residence. When the owner returned to the states the car was in fact sold in 2004 and was not in the best of shape. Word has it that the car continued to be stored in the afore mentioned barn even after the sale.  Padre is making some calls this evening to get the latest.

12/25 Update- A big thanks to Dave Tobin of daveknowscars.com for reading the post and putting together the out of state move. He asked if in fact the owner was a Dr, which he was and we concluded that the Padoga he had inspected in 2010 out on a farm, was the same car I am searching for. Dave provided me with over 140 pictures and even a write up he did on the barn-find at the time in the Spring edition of the Northern Star club newsletter(attached).  The car is a European model 230 SL auto trans that was originally imported into the U.S. in the mid 1970s. Up until this time I did not know if the car was a 230 or 250, manual or auto trans etc. Here is the link to the '65 SL230 that was removed from the parsonage and hauled on a flat bed to a farm 90 minutes west of the Twin Cities to Hutchinson, MN.
Sadly the car was infested with mice and sunk into the ground and left for dead. From here we know the car was sold but do know know its fate. https://flic.kr/s/aHskqimLig
I am very grateful for getting this far and proves the value of this form and enthusiast community.

I am asking the pagoda community to help me learn if this car was in fact parted out, sent back overseas or? Any info is appreciated. Regards, Jacob.
