Replacing bulbs in Center Instrument Cluster
« on: December 30, 2008, 22:44:28 »
Hello,

What is required to separate the backside of the Center Instrument Cluster from the front side (to replace the light bulbs only)?   There were three knurled nuts  (one large to hold the whole cluster in place and two small nuts that appear to hold the light housing to the front section) that I removed.   I WAS HOPING JUST TO REMOVE THE BACK COVER AND REPLACE THE BULBS W/O HAVING TO PULL OUT THE WHOLE CLUSTER AND CONCERN MYSELF WITH THE TEMP CAPILLARY AND OIL LINE!

Does anyone have backside photos of the center instrument cluster?   Is it possible to replace the bulbs w/o pulling the whole unit out?

Thanks!
Best Regards,

There are three or four small screws that need to be removed before the back piece comes off and reveals the many bulbs that lie beneath it.  Having removed this gauge recently, I do not think that it would be practical to remove this piece without first removing the whole gauge.  If it is possible, it would probably be a lot more tedious than dealing with the oil capillary and the temperature gauge line, neither of which is really difficult so long as you take your time and are gentle with everything.

A few photos of the back of the Center Instrument Cluster are in the Tech Manual in the Temperature Gauge article.

THANK YOU!  I knew there were photos someplace!   I could swear I opened the temp gauge article but must have missed it.

Mike...I am going to remove it carefully as suggested.  I just did the heater handle replacement and didn't find it hard at all...just glad it's behind me!

Happy New Year!
