Will a '85 190E 5 speed tranny fit in a Pagoda?

Glenn,
Already have a 5 speed manual tranny in my 230SL.
Mated with the 1985 190D 2.2L diesel motor, both came from the same car.
There are a lot of modifications to be made, but I do not know if the bell housing will mate up with the original motor.  I highly doubt that it will fit.

Happy Pagodalidays to Everyone!

Basically almost any tranny coud be mated to any engine- it all comes down to $ and engineering geometry.
A very practical solution looks to be the Getrag 265 - not too hard to find german origin as fitted to many BMWs of the 80's- bulletproof reputation - detachable bellhousing (makes adaption easier)
ratios in the correct bands etc.etc.
