Soft Top part
« on: December 19, 2008, 00:46:53 »
Recently purchased some parts for the soft top to replace pieces that were damaged/bent by prior owner.  One of the parts received is # 17 in the attached photo.  It shows up on the EPC system for the W113 but a not says the part is not used.  Can anyone tell me what the part is and how it is used.

Hello Jeff,
Think you got the spring loaded snap that fits onto the bottom frame part to hold the bottom tight when lowering and raising the top from the well.  There should be two of these, one on each side.
Can you snap a picture of the #17 part so I can be sure?
Happy Pagodalidays!

Thanks Walter.  Here is the pic.  One end of the cylinder is threaded.  Was this part of the early W113s to be obsoleted later on?

Jeff,
the parts book calls it a "spring-bolt lock". It keeps the rear part (with the window) folded together. The bolt can be turned in or out to increase/decrease the tension on the lock.  My spare parts list Edition C [10126] shows that it was used  on the 230SL until VIN 019020 and then with about 42 exceptions disappeared starting with VIN 019359, however, the first two 250SL also had it as Naj noted.
Left p/n 113 770 0329; right p/n 113 770 0429.
