drip drip drip goes the rear axle - driff
« on: February 01, 2009, 15:13:42 »
I had to put the sl on the driveway yesterday to work on my other cars.

The car sitting in such a way that the drivers rear was the low point.

After I finished one car I backed it out and noticed oil leaking out under the diff, drivers side.

when I took a closer look It appeared the diff fluid was leaking where the drivers tube mated to the diff.

the diff does not leak when the car is on flat ground.

is there a seal that has failed or could this be a larger issue?

from now on I will park the car on level ground till I get this figured out.

thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,

From what I remember, the slope outside your garage is quite steep.

Are you sure the oil is leaking from the joint itself and not just seeping down from the breather tube that sticks out right above that joint?

Sounds like  your differential is overfilled.  Check it with both axels level.  Do not allow the axels to hang down when checking or filling fluid.
