Hello All - - - Since I am five years deep into my own Pagoda restoration, a friend has asked me to accompany him when he goes to look over a '69 280SL being offered for $9,995. It appears to be roadworthy and is currently licensed.
The Craigslist photos indicate that the car is well worth investigating. As expected, the stock differential is still in the car. The Ford engine will, of course, become scrap metal. The owner claims "there are no rust issues on this car". (Yeah Right - - I will be taking along an awl when we go see it.) If it checks out to be rust-free and reasonably free of serious paint blemishes, I am inclined to advise him to pounce on it.
I have a M130.980 being rebuilt right now for installation into my car this summer. My friend an I have already agreed that he can acquire my current strong running oil-burner engine for a very reasonable price.
Disregarding the myriad of detailed side issues - - - does anyone out there also think this might be a pretty good deal?
Regards, Larry in CA
