FOLDING SOFTOP

....finally, this is what I came up with after  trying many  different methods. The blue sheet is a bedspread with elastic bands on both ends, ideally suited to wrap around and protect the canvas while stored.
As you can see, I also remove the locking pins so the top will not be compressed to much.

That might be difficult to do with a new canvas top.  After I replaced my old top I noticed that the new material was harder to fold up than the old top.

I failed to see the point here....if your compartment is clean and use a couple of small towels in critical places, shouldn't the canvas stay clean while stored?

....my ST is brandnew and folds easy, better when warmed up by the sun !

My main concern is not dirt, but the new canvas has been picking up scuff marks when folded away. Future will tell if this helps, I will keep you posted.

This top is stowed most of the time.  The rear window is protected with a cloth and some felt strips over the rubber.  The top is 34 years old.
