Idle speed

What should be the correct settings for the idle speed for a 230SL on cold and warm engine temp?  please advice thanks.

800 rpm.

Not sure about a 230, but a 280 runs at about 1000 or 1100 rpm when cold then drops to about 800 as it warms up. In some cars, the rpm can vary in stop-and-go traffic between these two numbers, not sure why.

The idle speed can be changed (if all else is properly adjusted) by turning the air intake control knob (not its official name) on the right side of the engine.

Yes ,  the warm idle is usually around 750 - 800 rpms and the cold idle can be as high as 1100 for a short time.
