I had a great day yesterday
. I finally got my 230sl running with the great help from this forum. The rebuilt motor came to life and sounded so good after the intial startup and 20 minutes of running. I ran the car for about 40 minutes total yesterday and wanted to get some opinions on what I should do next. Metric motors suggested Castrol 10/30 oil for the break in and it seemed to do well for the 40 minutes of running yesterday. My questions are as follows:
When should I change the oil? (everything is new, cleaned, or rebuilt)
I will stay with conventional oil but should I go to 10w40?
Change the fuel filter?
Adjust the valves when?
Retorque the head? ( I think I should leave it alone)
Ingition parts (On order and will install all new parts when they come in)
Plugs are set at .032
Points are set at .012
What is best setup for a new motor?
Should I use a Slick 50 type of additive to help the lubrication properties and and to cut down on friction inside?
What about Lucas fuel additive( I heard this stuff is real good on injection systems)
I plan on driving this car often and would like to maximize my motor investment.
Dr. Benz once mention a 5,5,5 plan for break in when the car becomes drivable but I seemed to have forgotten the details. Maybe he can re enlighten me.
Thanks to all that has helped and I hope to be on the road soon.
