Data Card has arrived
« on: January 12, 2004, 14:45:09 »
and I think I have diagnosed most of it, but a couple of questions that I am struggling with.

My paint code - UT and OT (I assume this is body and hard top) is 906. I assume that this is a metallic light blue (like the blue car on the home page) but if not.....

My interior code appears top be 140 - Cognac leather?

The soft-top is dark blue (744), by the way.

The 2 codes I am struggling with most are:

In box 62, the code is 2. Cannot find a definition for this one - 62 appear to be light/licence plate related. I am hoping this is a radio type code - as there appears to be nothing else related to that.

The other is box 25 (under 24 which is glove box key #) which I am guessing is a key type (looks like there are 3 items) but the code is N. Any thoughts?

Bosch lights, Auto, Power Steering, Conti tyres, English instruments all seem to be in my garage!

In a perverse way, I am sort of delighted that the buyer didn't order all the options :D .

Tosh:

According to the Engelen Pagoda book, Paint 906 is hellblau (light blue); 140 is Cognac MBtex with bamboo visors and hard top liner, with brown carpet.

622 is the code for the UK version. Radio codes are usually 51x depending on the radio model.

Boxes 24 and 25 are for key codes. Box 24 H is for Hauptschlussel (master key). The car came with three data cards. Only one card showed the 24 code number. This card was not to be carried in the car since the 24 number can be used to create a key for the car. A note on the right bottom of this card said: Attention! Card not in car but safeguard in briefcase. The Box 24 H number was blocked out on the other two cards which could be carried in the car.

The second code Box 25 is the key for ignition, doors, and tank for the earlier Pagoda models which needed several keys to operate all the locks. The later 280SL's used only one key and Box 25 was blank. The "N" indicated that the code was for the Nebenschlussel (secondary key).

Hope this is helpful (and hope it is correct.)

Thanks Richard

Thats very helpful.

So there's no radio reference on my card - unless of course by Oct69 they were fitting a radio as standard on UK models, for example.

and while the hardtop is bamboo interior/visors, when the car was restored, the then owner changed from a cognac tax to a cognac leather.

A comment about missing data codes:

The card codes are quite complete for factory installed items but some dealer installed options do not appear on the card.

Typical "missing" codes are: air conditioning, seat belts in the USA, transverse "jump" seat, some radios...

Also it would have been nice to have the rear end ratio indicated on the card but for that you have to get out and get under...
