Hear, hear!  And my favorite, where a 113 is driven into a field of concrete 'moguls' and parked with at least the two visible road wheels at the extreme opposite ends of suspension travel.  Then a guy in a lab coat exits casually from the driver's seat and oh-so-casually swings the door closed behind him.  This  with the car sitting pretty much level but with the suspension both stretched and compressed into yoga-like posture.  Great stuff.  I'd love to see it again, or even have a copy.

rm; hope I haven't hijacked your post -- and that fellow members can point us to where these gems repose, yes?  (Man, if 35-year-old films don't present a copyright problem, wouldn't that be a nice line to carry in our club shop?)

I believe the editor of our Pagoda magazine has access to the Mercedes archive....maybe the archive has some film. There might be some use and distribution restrictions.

pagoden,
the guy exiting casually is Karl Kling, former MB race driver. The film is on a CD that Mercedes used to sell, "Die grosse Automobilgeschichte von Mercedes-Benz" (MB's automotive history). My copy is about ten years old; it may still be available. Other W113 clips are on You Tube, but not this one. I don't know if production videos exist.

That clip is featured among many others on The History Channel program Automobiles- The Mercdes-Benz SL, available on VHS a few years ago.  It's definitely worth tracking down.

DB280, TA250sl, Klaus and Richard -

Gentlemen:  I managed not to see your kind responses until now.  I apologize for not responding long before now.  I appreciate both your knowledge and willingness to share it -- belatedly for certain, and truly; thank you.      Denny

Just read thread . I put in a request for a used copy from amazon. history channel discontinued  this VHS and DVD.
If anyone can make  me a copy I would greatly appreciate it. Let me know if it going to cost me one leg or arm. I am a history  buff and would greatly like to see the SL going down the Assembly line at singlefingen Germany.

What about all the great TV commercials from the late 1960's. The high wall at the test track, the 250C dodging two trucks that  pull out. and the  Red 280SL going through pylons. Were did those end up? Hope no one through them out.

This was when Mercedes-Benz engineering was at it best and the penny pinches had no control of the research and development of these cars. Sad to say computers cannot duplicate what the engineering did!

It is easy to think about copying someone else's work without realizing what that really means.  I run into this all the time.  I am not pointing fingers but it makes me sad when I see people suggesting that we bootleg material that is readily available from legitimate businesses.

I'm sure the History Channel program carries a new copyright and copying it would be illegal and wrong.  At $22.49 from Amazon, the cost isn't much more than the cost of making a copy if you counted the labor involved.  The manufactured disc will be made from a master and will not be on a DVD-R disc.  That will provide greater longevity and require less electronic error correction by the playback machine.  The packaging will be the professional version and be something as worthwhile owning as a book.   Please, spend the money rather than cheat the company that made the program possible.

I did not realize you have  a valid point about copy rights. It  would be wrong to boot leg a copy. I can
confirm I did put in  a $30.00 bit  into Amazon for  a used copy. I hope someone is willing to part with theirs.
I apologize for my misconduct of asking for a book let copy it is terribly the wrong thing to do.

My son happened to be watching the history channel today and saw a program on the Mercedes SL, (History Channel International, Voyager) which he said included information on the 230SL.  The DVD description only mentions the 300SL but the channel information confirmed that this is the program (DVD) that he watched.

The history channel currently has this DVD on sale for $14.99 plus shipping  SKU ID # 3849-82422

Well, I received the DVD today and, for $14.95 this is a must have for 230 owners.

There is some great old racing footage, a lot of history of Mercedes, very interesting segment of restoration of the 300's, a great chapter on the 230 and then more info on the later models.

Not much added on the 250's and 280's other than production numbers.

The DVD was produced in 1995.

Alas, no production line footage as requested at the beginning of this post.

P.S.  This video has the segment that Pagoden mentioned!  The max suspension travel and the guy exiting the parked car, perfectly level is amazing  (I don't think I will try that with my 230)

Try going to You Tube. Enter "280SL" and see what you come up with.
