MId Range IP Tuning

Yesterday I replaced my resistor type spark plugs with the recommending BP5ES (NGK) non resistor type. Still looking for improved mid range driveability. As you may have read in 'Another Pub Success Story' I am still searching for the perfect tune up.
I still am experiencing some hesitation issues that are just plain RICH in the 1500 - 2500 rpm range. My car does idle well, runs at high speed extremely will but in traffic or leaving from a stop it is logy (sp) and wakes up nicely above 2600 rpms. I have already made a small adjustment to the BLACK screws for the mid-range mixture (3 Clicks) but wonder if I am going in the right direction.
My Haynes manual indicated that clockwise as viewed from the rear will lean the mixture, but the Shop manual I received on CD at the pub says counter clockwise. Before I open that up again and fish around can someone tell me if I am going in the right direction.
Most of the 'around town' driving is within this rpm range and should expect to get much closer.

So is it Clockwise or Counter clockwise.

CCW = leaner, CW = richer.

Hello Tony,

Yes, the idle adjustment thumbscrew and the pairs of range screws all adjust rich when turned clockwise and lean when turned CCW.  In contrast to this, the main rack adjustment screw (by itself behind the 5mm plug) adjust lean when turned clockwise. I believe your Hanes Maual may be referring to the main rack screw which adjusts all speed ranges lean when turned clockwise.

It is not likely that your injection pump timing is off 180 degrees. However it can cause these same symptoms.  You will never be sure unless you check . You can use my method to check the pump in place. It will tell you if the pump has been set radically out of time without removing the pump.

I will give it a go.
Joe I did save the instructions you sent regarding check the pump, I suppose all are tape for tomorrow.
Just spent the day restoring the playground for our church, it's 90 degrees and the humidity is nearing 90 as well.
No more work for today.
