Door Handle Replacement
« on: January 18, 2004, 17:51:32 »
I have managed to source a replacement door handle with a barrel to fit the original key.  DOes anyone have any experience with fitting one?  I've done it on previous cars and it is quite easy, but I've never previously owned a car with quite such a solid door as the Pagoda so wondered if there were any tricks to knwo before I started.

Hello John,
The door handles can be removed without taking the door panel off. Open the door and remove the bolt on the door end, which locks the door handle on. It is either a phillips or 5m allen. Push the door handle forward and it can be removed. You will see that the door handle cylinder will come out in a fairly logical manner when the snap ring is removed. These early "single cut key" door handles are the same as on Mercedes Fintail sedans.

Talking about door handles, the other day I was able to buy a complete lock set for a late 113. i.e Ignition switch barrel,Two door handles, I trunk lock, glove box lock and a fuel tank cap all using one key!
Question? Will the door handles, trunk lock and glove box lock fit a 230?
OR
Will the ignition switch barrel fit an early 280 steeering lock?? (Rubber top type key)

Anybody know?
